Verdere toelichting: In 1767 gaven de Staten van Holland toestemming gronden behorende tot de Heerlijkheid van de Merwede te omkaden. In 1782 werd hiervan door de burgemeesters van de stad Dordrecht, als heren van de Merwede, gebruikgemaakt om de Oost-Merwedepolder te stichten. De afwatering van overtollig polderwater vond aanvankelijk op natuurlijke wijze plaats door houten duikers. Omstreeks 1850 werd één van deze duikers opgeruimd en werd een nieuwe duiker in de westelijke kant van de zuidelijke ringkade gelegd. Deze nieuwe afwatering werd in 1868 versterkt met een nieuw gestichte windvijzelmolen. De molen sloeg het water uit in de omkade gronden van de zuidelijk gelegen polder ‘de Smoker’ en zo op het Wantij. In 1902 werd de molen overgedragen aan de NV onder de naam van ‘Maatschappij tot exploitatie van de OostMerwede- en Smokerpolders’. De molen werd in 1912 buitengebruik gesteld en onttakeld. De romp bleef nog voortbestaan als bergplaats, in elk geval tot 1956.
