Het gedeelte met de vier 90 m hoge schoorstenen werd stapsgewijs stilgelegd van 1977 tot 1979. In 1981 werd begonnen met de ontmanteling. Het asbest werd verwijderd dat verwerkt was in de ketels, turbines en vele stoomleidingen. Ook werden de vier 50 megawatt-generatoren verwijderd. In november 1981 werd begonnen met de sloop van de gebouwen. De vier schoorstenen werden op 24 nov 1984 opgeblazen. De twee 150 megawatt-eenheden van de CM 3 en 4 werden in 1998-2000 geamoveerd. Van de eens zo statige stroomfabriek is niets meer over.
