Naar een artikel uit de Dordrechtsche Courant van 25 april 1912; De veerboot had op de lastlijn gemeten, een lengte van 25,60 mtr. en op dek gemeten 27 mtr. Ze was breed 6.50 mtr. en hol 2.90 mtr. Het voorste gedeelte van het ruime dek was bestemd voor het opnemen van rij- en voertuigen, het achterdek voor de passagiers en daarop werden rijwielhekken geplaatst. De kajuiten waren geriefelijk ingericht en meer dan 10 mtr. lang, de verschansing is 1.20 mtr. hoog, de machines ontwikkelden een arbeidsvermogen van 250 I.P.K. Het geheel maakte een uiterst solide indruk en gaf blijk, dat de heren die de zaak ter hand hadden genomen ook in deze uitstekend zijn geslaagd. De proefvaart werd op 25-4-1912 gehouden en de veerboot werd met de naam „Hollandsch Diep” gedoopt waarna het veer officieel was geopend. Het was de burgemeester van Zwijndrecht, Pieter Johannes Albertus de Bruïne die met het idee kwam om dit veer weer nieuw leven in te blazen en legde het plan voor aan de Vereniging Bloei van Dordrecht met als resultaat dat in het najaar van 1910 enkele Dordtse heren de levensvatbaarheid zagen in de ontwikkelde plannen en met elkaar een commissie vormden. Ook uit Brabant sloten zich verschillende heren aan en gezamenlijk ging men aan de slag met deze veerboot als resultaat.
