Zij overleed op 28-04-1907 en de Gemeente nam haar kans waar en kwam in juni met de erven van Carolina overeen het huis t.b.v. een brede toegang tot de school, af te breken. Het betrof een huurwoning, de erven werden vrijgesteld van huur. Eigenlijk was het niet meer geschikt voor bewoning. De Gemeente had het nog als pakhuis kunnen verhuren maar vond de te verkrijgen winst ondergeschikt aan de veiligheid van de schoolkinderen. In die tijd was het nog een andere school, namelijk Gemeenteschool 4. Eerder waren er al vruchteloze onderhandelingen geweest met het schoolhoofd P. Gips van de school aan de Visstraat om in de scheidingsmuur tussen de twee scholen een tweede uitgang te verkrijgen. De daadwerkelijke uitvoering van het plan werd nog even aangehouden vanwege bouwplannen voor een nieuwe school. De nieuwe school echter werd bestemd voor de Gemeenteschool Nr 2, gevestigd aan de Hofstraat. Terwijl Gemeenteschool Nr 4 die het oude schoolgebouw aan de Vriesestraat bewoonde, naar de Hofstraat verhuisde. Hierdoor zouden alle klassen van School 2 in één gebouw passen, want de nieuwe school aan de Vriesestraat had 14 lokalen en die aan de Hofstraat 12. Ik had me altijd al afgevraagd waarom die Gemeenteschoolnummers steeds wisselden. Nu weet ik i.i.g. één reden! :)
Op de linkerhoek van de school, zie je onderop een deur dorpel. Diezelfde dorpel zie je terug op 552_761032 aan de rechter zijde van de foto. Ter plaatse, vanaf de rooilijn in de Vriesestraat, in de ruimte naar achteren toe, staat nu inderdaad een wit pand. Het droeg ook ooit de naam "Witte Huis" en we kochten er in 1975 onze eerste wasautomaat:)
