De bewoner, die vrijwel het langst in de straat woonde - namenlijk bijna zestig jaar - is Wout van Wijngaarden (1919-2019). Hij leverde pas in 2016 de sleutels in. Van Wijngaarden zag de WIELwijk - die snel werd gebouwd om iets tegen de woningnood te doen - ingrijpend veranderen maar hij wilde zich er nog steeds thuis in zijn eigen wijk. Het winkelcentrum rond het Admiraalsplein was vanaf het begin het hart van de wijk. Ook in de jaren zestig van de vorige eeuw was er al een AH te vinden. De fietsenzaak heet geen Isendoorn meer en ook slager Pluymert is er niet meer te vinden. Zelfs gebouwen zijn al gesloopt zoals de voormalige Mulo Wielwijk waar overigens wellicht rond 1970 de eerste kerstherberg van Dordrecht te vinden was. Dat kwam omdat de initiatiefneemster zuster Lisette Berssenbrugge in de wijk woonde (Van Gentstraat 29) en Van Wijngaarden en zijn vrouw wist te werven via de Stefanuskerk als gastheer en gastvrouw. Mulo Wielwijk kreeg een nieuw gebouw aan de Abel Tasmanstraat. Nadat MAVO Wielwijk later als zelfstandige school ophield te bestaan, werd uiteindelijk het gebouw gesloopt en werd zo ruimte voor woningen gemaakt..
