Intussen kan ik je verklappen dat het bij het Leger des Heils aan het Kromhout was. Mij ging het er voornamelijk om de (foute) stelling dat burgemeester P.L. de Gaay-Fortman op nummer 10 zijn ambtswoning had, te weerleggen en aan te tonen dat je daarvoor toch echt naar nr 12, villa Benvenuta, of zoals in het krantenartikel, "Ben Venuta" moest gaan. Wat je oma'tje Kliphuis betreft zie ik ze onder het kopje 'Verhuizingen in de stad' staan in de krant van 20-08-1942: "Wed. P. Kliphuis, zonder, van Burgemeesterpoortje 4, naar Korte Engelenburgerkade 5." Ziet er in eerste instantie niet uit als een evacuatie. Maar op dordtenazoeker.nl (alweer zo'n fantastische webstek!) wordt al snel duidelijk dat er een connectie is tussen "Avondzon" en de Korte Engelenburgerkade 5 en zo lees ik daar dat ze daar op 17-08-1942 binnenkwam en op 27-02-1948 weer vertrok naar "Avondzon" Johan de Wittstraat 10! Bij 'opmerkingen' staat nog vermeld: Sinds Jan. '51 Rust- en verpleeghuis "Ora et Labora" Totaal zo'n 46 mutaties, waarvan in 1948 de laatste vier en ze kwamen net als je oma, niet allemaal rechtstreeks van "Avondzon". Ook na de bevrijding waren er INschrijvingen op dit adres. Het adresboek van 1938 laat weten dat Korte Engelenburgerkade 5 onbewoond is.
In 1935 door de erven van de weduwe verkocht aan De Barmhartigheidspost van het Leger des Heils voor een tehuis t.b.v. ouden van dagen. De villa krijgt de naam "Avondzon". Tussen1941 en 1947 hebben de bejaarden vanwege de oorlog nog een ander onderkomen moeten zoeken. Gedurende 1968 zijn de bewoners verhuisd naar het nieuwe onderkomen op de hoek Talmaweg/ S.M. Hugo van Gijnweg [ZIE AFBEELDING!] en is de villa op de Johan de Wittstraat uiteindelijk in 1969 gesloopt. In datzelfde adresboek lees ik dat P. L. de Gaay Fortman [burgemeester] op nummer 12 woont. Niet te verwarren met de villa op de zuidelijke hoek van de Kon. Wilhelminastraat en de Johan de Wittstraat omdat deze villa aan de Kon. Wilhelminastraat 34 geregistreerd stond en een paar later door burgemeester J. Bleeker bewoond zal zijn. Voor nummer 12 moeten we wat verder richting het station afzakken en bij villa Benvenuta naar binnen gaan. Ter ondersteuning van deze laatste bewering verwijs ik dan ook nog even naar het krantenbericht van 19-10-1939, als volgt: "HET NEUTRALE MILITAIR TEHUIS. In de gisteravond gehouden vergadering van de commissie voor de militaire tehuizen is besloten het centrale comité voor ontwikkeling en ontspanning voor de gemobiliseerde militairen te adviseeren, de villa hoek Johan de Withstraat—Singel, eertijds bewoond door burgemeester P. L. de Gaay Fortman, te huren en als neutraal militair tehuis in te richten." --------------- Het eerste deel van zijn ambtsperiode woonde burgemeester P.
