tijdens de Eerste wereldoorlog van 1914-1918. Zie ook 552_701704
Die barakken zijn er gekomen na hun verzoek aan B&W in februari 1916 voor het bouwen van barakken voor 60 personen, met een gelegenheid voor koken en recreatie ter vervanging van de kraampjes die er op dat moment stonden en uiteraard voor de winter totaal ongeschikt waren. De gemeente leverde de barakken en verhuurde ze aan de minister van oorlog. De paarden en manschappen van de Infanterie-munitietrein waren gestald en gelegerd in "De Oude Stee" welke door de gemeente was opgekocht. De boerderij bevond zich in een bocht aan de Zuidendijk ter hoogte van de afslag naar de Reeweg. Misschien 551_36084? Maar daarvoor moeten we bij Piet Bijl zijn :) Er werd aan B&W een crediet verleend voor het bouwen van een barak voor 80 manschappen en voor een stal met 46 paarden. Het één en ander ook bedoeld om de burgerbevolking te ontlasten cq te verlossen van inkwartiering. De minister van oorlog zag geen bezwaar de inkwartiering op te heffen zolang de gemeenten ze maar hielpen met een barak. De barak en stal zouden dan weer worden verhuurd. Wanneer de oorlog te snel afgelopen zou zijn, dan zou de gemeente "een strop" hebben. Dat hadden uiteraard weinig mensen erg gevonden.
