Bata, de schoenenkoning van Zlin uit Tsjecho-Slowakije is tot schrik van alle Dordtse schoenlappers nu ook met een reparatie-inrichting in Dordrecht neergestreken en wel op de Vriesestraat nummer 1. In twee uitgaves van de Dordrechtsche Courant jaargang 1935, kom ik de navolgende advertentie tegen: "BATA REPARATIE-INRICHTING. Wij repareeren nog steeds Heerenzolen en -hakken voor 90 ct., Dameszolen en -hakken voor 70 ct. BATA, Vriesestraat 1. Een stukje verder bij de witte kozijnen N. C. Nelson, Patat Frites en IJsbuffet op huisnummer 9/11. De meisjes van de R.K. Meisjesschool, een paar deuren verder op 15 (Voorstraat 132) zaten gebeiteld met een ijssalon naast de deur! [552_302411] Tussen de poort van de school en de ijssalon nog een pandje wat in gebruik was bij de tapijtenwinkel van Herwijnen die een stukje verderop, tegenover de Blindenliedengasthuissteeg zijn winkel had. Na de foto in een fotobewerkingsprogramma geopend te hebben, ontwaar ik aan de linker zijde een serie uithangborden. De eerste is een LIPS bord van Verboom en de Meer (2/4). Verder een bord van de Druiventros (6) welke daar op 8-8-1931een 2e filiaal opende waar voorheen de heer Fischer een kapperszaak dreef en dan mogelijk een bord van Hotel-Café-Restaurant 'Metropole' van Van Leen, (10/12). Maar die laatste kan ik niet meer zo goed lezen.
