=================================================================== De schotse immigranten James Hunter en zijn broer Robert Hunter en Arthur S. Benn richtten rond ca. 1885 een exportbedrijf voor timmerhout op in Mobile, Alabama, genaamd Hunter, Benn & Co. Zij betrokken van verschillende houtzaagmolens het hout, en waren gevestigd aan de "Industrial Canal" waar ook de meeste zaagmolens gevestigd waren. "Industrial Canal" is een zijtak van de "Three Mile Creek". =================================================================== Bij de foto rechtsonder zie je links op de achtergrond het Great Southern Hotel (Gulfport), wat werd gebouwd in 1902/1903 i.o.v. de ondernemer Joseph T. Jones en ontworpen door de in Mississippi Gulf Coast geboren en in New Orleans gevestigde architect Thomas Sully. Het hotel bevond zich op een paar honderd meter van de Mississippi Sound. Het was een houten gebouw met 3 verdiepingen met 250 kamers. Het hotel had een eigen geboorde waterput, een onafhankelijke riolering en een onafhankelijke energiecentrale voor stoom, warmte en elektriciteit. Voorzieningen voor de gasten waren onder meer een biljartkamer, een tennisbaan, verhuur van paarden en buggy's en een eigen orkest. Het grootse hotel was verlamd door de economie van de "Great Depression", maar hield stand tot in de jaren veertig. Tijdens de bouw van US Route 90 in 1951 werd het Great Southern Hotel afgebroken.
