Gemeente. =================================================================== OFFICIEEL IN GEBRUIK GENOMEN =================================================================== Reeds 40 jaar lang hield de Geref. Gemeente alhier haar godsdienstoefeningen in de Westerkerk, het kleine houten kerkgebouw in de Muys van Holystraat. De groei der gemeente bracht echter mee, dat dit kerkgebouw te klein werd, zoodat noodzakelijk een nieuwe kerk gebouwd moest worden. Dank zij de medewerking der geheele gemeente is in een kort tijdsverloop de nieuwe Julianakerk tot stand gekomen. Het oorspronkelijke plan was om de kerk op een aangekocht terrein aan de Marcellus Schampersstraat te bouwen, maar het werd de Muys van Holystraat waarvoor de gemeente toestemming had verleend en waartoe het benodigde terrein gehuurd werd. Blijkens een artikel uit de Dordrechtsche Courant van 20 november 1887: "het bouwen eener houten hulpkerk met pastorie, kosterswoning enz., ten behoeve der Ned. Ger. gem. (dolerende) alhier, op een terrein aan de Muys van Holystraat, is gegund aan den laagsten inschrijver, den heer v. d. Ruit, te Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht voor f 6080." Voor het leveren en stellen van de kerkbanken was er een aparte aanbesteding.
