Bron: boekje Groeten uit Nederhardingsveld van de Historische Vereniging Hardinxveld-Giessendam blz. 17 Langeveld en van Vliet, later scheepswerf de Merwede We zijn binnen de poort van de scheepswerf "Langeveld en van Vliet" gestapt om er een kijkje te nemen. Het was in 1902 toen Langeveld en Van Vliet op deze plaats een werf stichtten. Langeveld uit Hardinxveld met de poen en van Vliet uit Nijmegen met de kennis, tenminste zo dacht men, maar twee jaar later werd de financiële noodklok geluid. Aannemer Paulus Langeveld zat financieel aan de grond en Van Vliet moest naarstig op zoek naar een andere financiële partner. Gelukkig vond hij die ook en verzekerde zo het voortbestaan van de scheepswerf. We zien hier een overzicht van de bedrijvigheid op de werf in de beginperiode De werf voert hier nog de naam "Langeveld en Van Vliet", de foto moet dus tussen 1902 en 1904 zijn gemaakt want na het faillissement van Langeveld verandert de naam van de werf in "Van Vliet en Co".
