In de tijd van de foto heette het hier nog Binnendams 2e huis links Damstraat 72 de schilderswinkel van Bakker, links daarnaast Dukel. Rechts van de schilderswinkel 68, waar o.a.Soundtrack en de stomerij van Suiker was, dan bij de eerste telefoonpaal de steeg naar korenmolen "De Hoop" en dan 62 waar fietsenmaker van Houwelingen zat. De afrit van de Damstraat werd ‘Het hangen van den Dam’ genoemd. Rechts zien we nog de gevel van Hotel de Zwaan, waar Reijer Dekker de scepter zwaaide. Daarnaast Café ’s Lands Welvaren’ en verderop Cafe ‘Het Scheepje’ Het witte huizen complex was gebouwd voor de rekening van de diaconie.
