Gerd overleed na zijn vertrek uit Dordrecht in 2001 en is in Friesland begraven. Gerd had de verhuizing van Bibelot van Steegoversloot 34 naar de kerk aan de Wijnstraat 117 als belangrijk onderwerp in zijn takenpakket. Ondanks dat de spanningen hoog opliepen, had Gerd met de leden van Bibelot een goed contact. Tussen de bezeting van de kerk in de zopmer van 1979 en de opening begin april 1981 zat wel door allerlei procedures een lange tijd. Uiteraard was de wethouder de logische man die Bibelot in de kerk opende. Dat deed hij zelfs nog een tweede keer in november 1985 nadat Bibelot in de kerk na een brand in 1984 weer was gerestaureerd, opgeknapt en aangepast aan nieuwe geluidseisen. Net als de ook al overleden ambtenaren Jan Comijs en Willem van Leeuwen stond Gerd bij Bibelot op een bijzondere lijst. Bibelot had voor alle verhuizingszorgen ook twee externe adviseurs bij de hand (Cees J. Verschure en mr. Maarten Veldhuijzen). Daarom werd gewerkt en was er communicatie tussen de gemeente en Bibelot via een formeel en informeel traject. Dat hield de relaties goed
