Nog even ter aanvulling. In 1854 werd het als vleeshal in 1834 gebouwde pand als synagoge ingericht. Voor de school werd er een ruimte in het pand vrijgemaakt. Het schoolgebouw hier rechts werd pas bij het 40 jarig bestaan van deze synagoge gebouwd. De eerste verdieping van de school waren vergaderruimten voor de Israëlische Gemeente. De typische twee kleine huisje voor de Synagoge waren oorspronkelijk bestemd en gebouwd voor de ambtenaren van de toen nog bestaanden stedelijken accijns op het geslacht (vleeschaccijns), dus nog uit de tijd dat het een vleeshal was. Tot 1854 moest het vlees centraal geslacht worden tot de lokale overheid inzag dat de slagers dat ook gewoon 'thuis' konden doen.
Op 554_33560 zie je de school achter het vrachtwagentje staan met rechts de Israëlische Kerk of zoals u wilt, de Synagoge. Let op de schoorsteen en de ramen (556_2022) van de kerk! Dus hier op deze foto is het middelste pand de kerk. Alhoewel het aanzicht van de Synagoge gezien vanaf de Varkenmarkt qua volume niet zo groots was, was het best nog wel een behoorlijk gebouw qua grootte, wat goed te beoordelen is door de verschillende interieurfoto's van de kerk maar vooral op de luchtfoto 552_322770 waar de laatste dagen voor deze panden zijn geteld. Het linker gebouw is inderdaad een pakhuis. (552_325558) wat zich niet direct aan de Varkenmarkt bevond, maar verder naar achter lag achter een ander pand. Het bleef als laatste staan en is nog op luchtfoto 552_322669 te zien, waar het troosteloos aan de Nieuwe Markt in wording staat, omringt door auto's. Pak de kaart van 1923 en 552_313399 er ook eens bij! Bedenk daarbij dat de ruimte en met name de breedte achter de school zich niet beperkte tot de breedte van het eigen pand, maar doorliep tot drie panden verder achter het huidige nummer 225. Bij het op verzenden klikken zag ik dat de commentaren inmiddels verder aangevuld waren en meningen aangepast. Allicht vult dit schrijven toch nog iets aan :)
Vlak achter de linker boom liep er van links naar rechts een op taillehoogte gemetseld muur welke links aansloot op een veel hogere muur haaks op de lagere muur met daar achter 's Heer Boeyenstraatje. Voor me heb ik een fotootje van maart 1949 met daarop staand en zittend voor en op het muurtje net rechts van de linker boom de meisjes (o.a. Annie Smaal) van HBS 5a op gymnastiek.
