Op de foto zijn de nieuwe fundatiebalken te zien met gaten erin. Het werk ging als volgt. Door de ronde openingen worden de uit holle elementen van 2 m lengte bestaande palen hydraulisch de grond in gedreven.gebeurde met twee oliedrukvijzels. Is de juiste paallengte bereikt dan werden de holle palen gevuld met beton. Er was een dag nodig per paal dus het ging langzaam. Als tegendruk fungeerde de huizen. De oude palen werden van de huizen losgemaakt want de palen kleefden teveel aan de als maar verzakkende grond en daardoor waren de huizen immers verzakt. Het hele project kostte de gemeente destijds bijna een miljoen gulden. Van de flats zijn er maar twee onder handen genomen want de derde - in het verlengde van de Giessenstraat - moest toch al weg vanwege de afrit van de rondweg naar de Staart. Deze flat is in 1969 afgebroken.
