Voor de aanleg van de Nieuwe Haven stond deze kraan dus aan de rivier. In 1874, dus een jaar later nadat de Roodermont werd gesloopt, werd er een nieuwe kraan op de Merwekade opgericht. Zie De Dordrechtsche Courant van 30-07-1910 waarin het navolgende boek wordt besproken: “Het tweede deel van „Oud-Nederlandsche Steden in haar ontstaan, groei en ontwikkeling” door dr. H. Brugmans en C. H. Peters, uitgegeven door A. W. Sijthoffs Uitgevers-Maatschappij te Leiden.
