In de buitengebieden zorgen 230 drukrioleringsgemalen voor de afvoer van het afvalwater. In het hoofdrioolgemaal komt dus heel veel afvalwater binnen. Al dit water wordt vanaf hier weer verder gepompt naar de zuivering, 6,5 kilometer verder gelegen aan de Baanhoekweg. Dit proces gaat volledig automatisch.
