De spoorbrug bij Moerdijk over het Hollandsdiep, had aan Brabantse kant een draaibrug. Vóór het ontstaan van de verkeersbrug was er voor de scheepvaart wiens kruiplijn te hoog was voor het passeren van de vaste overspanningen een mogelijkheid om die brug tóch te passeren. Men moest daarvoor het vaarwater verlaten via een parallel liggende geul en haven aan Brabantse kant en daar via een draaibrug de spoorbrug passeren. Erg gecompliceerd en belastend voor beide verkeersstromen. Men besloot al snel de nieuwe verkeersbrug op een voor de scheepvaart acceptabele hoogte te brengen en de spoorbrug vanaf Brabantse kant 3 meter op te vijzelen, gelijk met de nieuwe verkeersbrug. De draaibrug werd niet gesloopt vanwege de kosten, maar bedolven onder het zand. De tekening laat w.s. de constructie zien welke nodig was het nieuwe vaste deel in de spoorbrug, welke de leemte van de draaibrug op moest vullen.
