Een vijftal werklieden uit de Groote Lindt waren gisteren avond hier ter stede uitgeweest en keerden, min of meer onder den invloed van dat „uitgaan”, omtreeks een uur na middernacht huiswaarts. Op de Kuipershaven, tegenover de werkplaatsen der firma Bouvy, wilde een hunner, de 25 jarige J. S., tusschen de glaskisten, welke daar langs de kade staan opgesteld, zekere gelegenheid zoeken, maar hij kon die niet vinden, In het duister aftastende langs die kisten liep hij verder, niet vermoedende dat deze voor een gedeelte over het water heen staken. Het gevolg daarvan was, dat S. opeen gegeven oogenblik geen grond meer onder de voeten had en hals over kop in de Kuipershaven tuimelde. Zijne vier kameraden D. V- d- B_‚ oud 24, B. V. 27, H. Z. 23 en T. D. 26 jaar oud, die op korten afstand op hem stonden te wachten, snelden op zijn hulpgeroep toe, maar het verging hun al niet beter, want achtereenvolgens kwamen ook zij in het ijskoude ‚ bad terecht. Gelukkig lag op korten afstand van de kade een diep geladen stoomboot, waarvan het berghout maar even boven den waterspiegel uitstak en waaraan zij zich allen konden vastgrijpen, om vervolgens op de boot te klauteren en zoo weer den vasten wal te bereiken. Bouvy betaalde daar een soort van havengeld voor. Je kan sowieso terug tot 1892, of het in werkelijkheid hier het geval is, weet ik niet zeker, maar het zou zomaar kunnen. In dat jaar betaalden ze voor 212.8 M² kade Kuipershaven. Bron:Dordtenazoeker.
