=================================================================== De spoorlijn naar de Staart. =================================================================== Nadat een week of vier geleden op de spoorlijn, die het stationsemplacement met de industrie-terreinen in den West-Merwedepolder verbindt, voor het eerst was proefgereden, werd vanmiddag officieel de lijn in gebruik genomen. Evenals de vorige keer hing ook thans een derde klas personenwagen achter den locomotief. In ietwat sneller tempo dan de eerste maal reed de machine over de Oranjelaan. De stations- chef, de heer Marx, en de heer C. H. van Nahuys, hoofdopzichter van weg en werken, vergezelden den trein op dezen rit. Mocht op 29 Augustus de Prins Hendrikbrug nog niet bereden worden, thans. ging het heel voorzichtig over de versterkte brug. Voor de fabriek van Lips werd halt gehouden. De beide directeuren, de heeren Lips en Eras, kwamen een oogenblik den trein bezichtigen. Voor hen is de tot stand koming van de spoorlijn van de grootste beteekenís. Een zijlijn zal nog aangelegd worden over het fabrieksterrein, terwijl ook de Basalt Mij. waarschijnlijk een zijspoor zal krijgen. De terugtocht werd ook medegemaakt door den heer Bouwman, inspecteur bij de spoorwegen. De burgemeester mr. dr. Wytema, liet zijn belangstelling voor de pas aangelegde spoorlijn blijken. Hij bevond zich in de Merwedestraat toen de trein op zijn terugweg was. Tijdens een kort oponthoud op de Prins Hendrikbrug onderhield hij zich een oogenblik met de spoorwegautoriteiten. Zonder stoornis bereikten locomotief en personenwagen het stationsemplacement.
