Er stonden vier turbo-generatoren van elk 50 megawatt en totaal acht stoomketels, twee per machine. Het ketelhuis was 31 m hoog en de schoorstenen 90 m. De architect van deze markante fabriek was H. Fels die ook de Centrale Gelderland 1 en 2 in Nijmegen. De CG2 had evenals de CM ook vier 90 m hoge schoorstenen en de machinezaal vertoonde grote overeenkomst met de Dordtse centrale. Het was hoogstaande architectuur en het waren zo'n beetje de mooiste centrales van ons land. De Centrale Merwedehaven was in 1954 geheel in bedrijf; met de bouw was in 1949 begonnen. In 1981 werd begonnen met de sloop. De twee in de zestiger jaren bijgebouwde 150 megawatt-eenheden zijn in 1998-2000 afgebroken. Deze foto zal rond 1955 gemaakt zijn. Rechts de kranen van het kolenpark; de stroomfabriek werd tot ca. 1971 op kolen gestookt en dat was de interessantste periode.
