Voor voetgangers en wielrijders zal er ter hoogte van het Dolhuissteiger een hulpbrug [foto] worden aangelegd. Overige verkeer werd via de Visbrug omgeleid. Op 31 maart 1937 was de hulpbrug binnen een dag gereed en kon de volgende dag op 1 april met de sloop van de oude Leuvebrug begonnen worden door de Genie en het bureau van Gemeentewerken. De twee kleppen van de oude brug werden 's morgens vroeg bij hoog water met behulp van een drijvende bok weggenomen. De beide landhoofden van de brug heeft de Genie met behulp van diverse ladingen van de springstof Trotyl, vanuit een oud werkbureau van Gem. Werken, welke was gebruikt bij de restauratie van de Grote Kerk, laten springen met de daartoe aangelegde elek.leidingen en een accu die in het bureau stond opgesteld. Om de 5 minuten werd er een lading tot ontploffing gebracht. Dit moest met beleid gebeuren vanwege de daar aanwezige bebouwing. Het aanbrengen van de ladingen moest voor 12 uur afgerond zijn vanwege het dan laagst bereikte waterpeil zodat men ook om ongeveer om 12:30 met het laten springen kon beginnen. De Pottenkade, Lange Gelderschekade en de Prinsenstraat waren vanwege de veiligheid tussen 11:00 en 14:00 afgezet. Varen in de Voorstraathaven zelf was binnen die tijden natuurlijk ten strengste verboden.
