De vlakke ronde muur is bekleed met een uit Zweden geïmporteerde baksteensoort, die het geluid dempt, het vocht absorbeert, zo licht is, dat het op kurk lijkt en zo kostbaar is, dat de fabrikant geregeld de bouw kwam controleren. Het in augustus 1938 aangevangen bouwwerk kwam na het storten van het beton voor de koepel tot stilstand, want juist vlak na het storten viel de vorst eind december in. Deze richtte niet alleen veel schade aan omdat een deel van de muren zijn bekleding verloor, maar ook de bekisting kon niet verwijderd worden waardoor er veel vertraging ontstond. De uiteindelijke kosten van de aula kwamen uit rond de f 81.000,00 een overschrijding van f 6.500,00 van het krediet. Deze kosten zijn inclusief het in 2e instantie aangeschafte pijporgeltje. Pas op 17 oktober 1939 kwam de aula gereed.
